DOGGED - Review
soundtrackdreams.com

"...James Griffiths is not shy about those sound effects that brutally strangle the melodies and this creates a contrasting effect in his score; I like how the composition is constructed, I enjoy this duality and I get lost in those piano and string motifs, moody and reflective, before the short circuits throw me out..."

DOGGED - Review
buysoundtraxcom

"...The score is a hauntingly textural one which mixes a reflective solo piano motif supported by assertive melodic measures from a string quartet; these delicate acoustic reflections are then offset by some truly disturbing and scary hybrid musical designs; the score by itself is a deliciously frightening listening experience and the contrast between the acoustic and the electrifying synthetic designs creates a marvelously horrific musical statement that keeps the listener abrasively on edge..."

"...Griffith’s DOGGED score is a powerhouse of a horror score, brilliantly embracing the listener/viewer in its sonic textures and defining the musical identity of what has become known as “folk horror..."

68 Kill - Review
Soundtrackdreams.com

"...I am happy to hear right away a composition that puts order in that chaos and gives me a coherent and rewarding listening experience. Part Western, part ambient and even part scary in the more suspenseful moments, “68 kill” is always fun and interesting to hear..."

Darkwave: Edge Of The Storm - Review
UKFilmReview.com

..."Any good sci-fi film needs a talented composition. The score very often being crucial in settling the audience into the world being presented to them, as it is a subtle way of influencing their viewing experience. Darkwave: Edge of the Storm has a superb score. The music compliments the adventurous tone of the story, as well as the poignant loneliness of these characters in a dangerous and tumultuous setting. Throughout the film, never once was I jolted out of the movie by a misplaced note or poorly chosen instrument..."

THE DRIFT / Darkwave: Edge of The Storm - Review
IFMCA Writer: John Mansell

"...THE APPROACH SUITE is one of my personal favourites from the score it is filled with drama and becomes a powerhouse piece with the composer adding more percussion driving low strings and brass, at times it evoked memories of John Williams IMPERIAL MARCH but just fleetingly giving the cue an air of dread and greater urgency..."

'THE DRIFT' - Review
IFMCA Writer: Mihnea Manduteanu

90 / 100

"Every now and then I need to hear a score like this one. I need to hear music that I can just enjoy without thinking and analyzing it too much. This is simply great film music. There’s nothing else to say about it. There’s no down time, no drop in quality. “The drift” keeps me engaged and invested in it for the entire hour and when it’s over I feel like I wanted more."

"…..It just cuts you into pieces with its strings before setting fire to whatever is left….."

“The drift” might be the best Sci-fi horror score I’ve heard since Brian Tyler’s “Alien vs Predator”. I’ll be keeping my ears opened for James Griffiths. Now I’ll go listen to this one again. And again. Until the beautiful and atmospheric “Closing credits”.

Directorial Testimonials & Interviews

Director / Producer: Darren Scales

"We don’t need to convince you of James’ ability, the music speaks for itself. He is a gifted composer, capable of many (if not all) genres.   James was tasked with scoring ‘Time Slips’ (2015) (one of numerous Arcadia projects brought to life by James) - on short notice with a rapidly approaching deadline – he succeeded without any complications.  James’ turn-around time is quite frankly, impressive.  He is polite, patient and pro-active.

James’ love for music and film is obviously reflected in his work.  Not only does he listen to instructions but successfully offers creative input, to the betterment of the product.  What’s most important to us, is being able to trust someone with a project that we have invested so much time into – when a project is given to James, that trust is absolute.

There is a bright future waiting for James, one that we hope we’re a part of.  With a view to maintaining our relationship, we recommend that you start one."

- Liam Swann, Director, Writer - Arcadia Film

"James takes us on a subliminal journey emoting the secrets, fear and action throughout.....

...James’ outstanding score has skillfully blended all the components together... "

"...always a fun road working with such a gent and inspiring talent…"

- Darren Scales, Director/Producer - 'THE DRIFT'
Backyard Productions
2014

"James’ skill, knowledge and talent for composing music really is astounding. You only have to listen to his scores to know that. We worked with James for a test scene of the upcoming feature film, ‘Resistance’. James caught the tension and heartache of our protagonist perfectly with a beautiful score.

As someone who directs films and loves watching film, when the score stands out, not to the extent that it takes over from everything else, but so the audience know it is there, that is when music composing is in its element. When you get that perfect balance, the music excites and engages the audience in such an amazing and emotional way that can truly make the moment stand out."

Red Pencil Productions
